Cabinet painting and refinishing in Fort Collins, Colorado

Fort Collins kitchens get a lot of use and a lot of light. Big windows, dry air and the long Northern Colorado summer sun are hard on a cabinet finish, and most kitchens built in the 1990s and 2000s are now at the point where the doors look tired but the boxes are perfectly sound. That is the situation cabinet painting and refinishing was made for.

Elements Painting works out of Berthoud, and cabinet refinishing is one of the five services we bring to Fort Collins homes. The goal is a kitchen that feels new without the cost, mess and weeks of demolition that come with replacing cabinets.

When painting your Fort Collins cabinets makes sense

Painting is the right call when the cabinet boxes are structurally sound, the doors close square, and the only real problem is the finish or the color. If the boxes are sagging, water damaged or coming apart at the joints, paint does not fix that, and we will tell you so at the estimate.

How we prep and finish cabinets

The finish is only as good as the preparation under it. Doors and drawer fronts are removed, labeled and finished separately from the boxes. Every surface is cleaned to remove kitchen grease, sanded to give the primer something to grip, filled where hardware holes are moving, and primed before any color goes on. Then two separate coats of cabinet-grade finish, with full dry time between them, not a wet-on-wet pass that looks fine for a season and chips at the handles by the next one.

Choosing a cabinet color in Northern Colorado light

Fort Collins homes get strong, clear light for most of the year, and that light shifts a color more than people expect. A white that reads warm in a showroom can look cold in a north-facing kitchen off Shields Street, and a mid-tone gray can go green under warm bulbs at night. We bring samples and look at them on your actual doors, in your actual light, before you commit. Reversing a cabinet color decision is expensive, so we build in time to get it right first.

Living in your kitchen during the project

Cabinet work is the one service where the kitchen is disrupted for part of the project. Doors and drawers are off, and the boxes are masked while they are being finished. We set up protection, keep the rest of the house usable, and clean up at the end of every day rather than only at the end of the project. You get a schedule up front so you can plan meals around it.

Who will be in your house

Our crews are in-house. Three lead painters have more than 25 years with the company combined, and there are no day-of subcontractors. William Frates, the owner, writes the estimate, buys the finish himself in the grade written on that estimate, and does a separate final walk-through with you after the crew does theirs.

Standing behind the work

Every cabinet project carries a 5-year limited warranty on craftsmanship, written on the estimate, covering cracking, peeling, or uneven coverage due to workmanship. Elements Painting is insured, and a certificate of insurance is available on request.

Common questions about cabinet painting in Fort Collins

Do you paint cabinets in Fort Collins, or only near Berthoud?
Yes. Elements Painting is based in Berthoud and serves Fort Collins along with Boulder, Longmont, Lafayette and Louisville and the surrounding Boulder and Larimer county communities. Cabinet painting and refinishing is one of our five residential services.
Can my cabinets be painted, or do they need to be replaced?
If the boxes are sound and the doors close square, they can almost always be painted. If the boxes are sagging, water damaged or separating at the joints, replacement is the honest answer and we will say so at the estimate.
Can we use the kitchen while the cabinets are being refinished?
Partly. Doors and drawers are off and the boxes are masked while they are being finished, so the kitchen is disrupted for part of the project. You get a schedule up front so you can plan around it.
What does the warranty cover on painted cabinets?
A 5-year limited warranty on craftsmanship, written on the estimate, covering cracking, peeling, or uneven coverage due to workmanship.
Are you insured?
Insured. Certificate of insurance available on request.
